Minecraft Is Getting a New Dimension Called The Sift
Minecraft has received countless new biomes since 2011, but its core dimension count has remained unchanged for fifteen years. That is about to change. In 2027, a fourth dimension will join the Overworld, Nether, and End.
The new realm is called The Sift. It is described as riotously pink and features bunny-like creatures that walk rather than hop. Mojang revealed The Sift during Minecraft Live, with a clip showing a rabbit-like mob strolling through pink grass beneath a turquoise sky. The Sift in Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons 2
The Sift will arrive in both Bedrock and Java editions of Minecraft in 2027. Before that, players can explore a variant of the dimension in Minecraft Dungeons 2, set to release next week.
Because The Sift is a new Minecraft dimension, players can expect new mobs, new blocks, new biomes, and other supporting content. The version in Minecraft Dungeons 2 may differ from the later Minecraft implementation, so it should be viewed as an early preview rather than a final design.
What We Know About The Sift’s Biomes and Mechanics
In Minecraft Dungeons 2, The Sift is affected by shifting tides that can impact player characters. The dimension also includes hazardous block types and new mobs, including both friendly mobs and hostile mobs.
Two named biomes in The Sift are Singer’s Meadow and Carapace. Singer’s Meadow is a verdant area where various flora grow out of red sculk. Carapace is a desert area dotted with strange blue walls and giant hollow fossils.
Mojang has not yet detailed how players will access The Sift in Minecraft or how that version will differ from the Minecraft Dungeons 2 expression of the dimension.
Minecraft Is Also Adding Ice Caves
The Sift was not the only new Minecraft location announced. The game is also getting a new biome called Ice Caves.
Ice Caves is a subterranean biome that will appear sporadically beneath colder surface biomes of the Overworld. It introduces a light-based mechanic: icicles on the ceilings will detach if you place a torch beneath them, so players will need to be more careful about where they place light sources while exploring these underground areas.
Alongside icicles, Ice Caves will feature light-emitting crystals, a new resource called calcite, and a new zombie variant called the frozen zombie. Mojang has not specified a release date for Ice Caves, but the biome is apparently coming to testing soon.
