World of Warcraft: Forever EU Beta Lag: How to Fix High Ping and Disconnections

Digital Tech Explorer has been testing the World of Warcraft: Forever beta, and one issue is standing out: European players are reporting connection drops that can make the beta feel unplayable.

The first sessions looked like typical launch-day queuing. But as TechTalesLeo dug into the reports, the pattern became clearer: login delays, sudden spikes in world latency, and repeated disconnects for EU players.

World of Warcraft: Forever is rolling out in beta, but EU players are hitting major connection issues.

Blizzard rarely runs beta builds with EU routing as the primary focus. Forever appears to be routing through US-based infrastructure, which can be manageable at 100+ ping for a limited gaming test. The issue becomes more serious when the connection jumps to 300 ping, spikes into the 2000 ms range, and then drops entirely.

A US-region VPN improved the connection during testing

The workaround found in this test was a VPN suited to PC gaming, such as the options outlined in PC Gamer’s guide to VPNs for PC gaming. Setting the VPN to a US region produced a stable around 100 ms connection and removed the repeated disconnects. While completing quests in Durotar, TechTalesLeo also saw the same workaround reported by other EU players in the community.

A VPN does not make the internet faster. In this case, it helps by rerouting traffic in a way that can avoid inefficient paths between EU users and US-based game services.

Paid beta access makes the connection issue feel worse

The reaction in the EU forums is blunt: players do not expect to need a workaround just to access a game they have already paid for. One EU player wrote that they should not need a VPN service to get a playable connection to a game they already paid €60 for. Another forum commenter confirmed that a VPN brought latency below 100 ms, while still arguing that players should not have to fix the problem themselves.

That frustration is amplified because Blizzard has used the beta period to sell the Skyborne Epic Pack. The EU store page highlights beta access, but it does not clearly state the beta’s server regions—only the dates it is taking place.

Blizzard may still resolve the connection issue

This looks like a network routing problem rather than a permanent defect, and Blizzard will likely address it before wider release. At the time of this Digital Tech Explorer report, the issue did not appear to be listed as a known issue on the forums. We have reached out to Blizzard for comment and will update this article if we receive a response.
