Reburn’s Sci-Fi Shooter ‘La Quimera’ Announces April Release and Beta Test

Tech enthusiasts and gamers, mark your calendars! Here at Digital Tech Explorer, we’re always on the pulse of exciting new releases, and the upcoming sci-fi shooter, La Quimera, is high on our watchlist. Set in a captivating “fictional Latin American megalopolis,” this title emerged less than two months ago following developer Reburn’s intriguing restructuring announcement. Reburn has now confirmed that its first game under the new studio name is set for an April 25th release, with an exclusive one-day closed beta test scheduled for April 12th, giving eager players a first taste of La Quimera.

To give us a closer look, Reburn also dropped a new gameplay trailer for La Quimera, focusing intensely on the in-game action. You can watch the full La Quimera – Gameplay Trailer on YouTube and witness the powerful exosuits in full flow.

There’s a real Crysis vibe to the gameplay footage, particularly with the prominent feature of a powerful “exosuit”. While it’s a little disappointing the suit doesn’t offer quippy one-liners when engaging its abilities, perhaps that’s to avoid treading too closely to Crytek’s seminal work.

Developer Background: The Reburn-4A Games Split Explained

The story behind Reburn and La Quimera is certainly unique. As Digital Tech Explorer reported earlier this year, what many knew as 4A Games (famed for the excellent Metro shooters) with studios in Ukraine and Malta, were revealed to be two separate companies. The Ukrainian studio, 4A Games Ukraine, has since rebranded to Reburn and is channeling its efforts into La Quimera. Meanwhile, 4A Malta continues development on the beloved Metro series.

Adding another layer to this, 4A Malta has established a new studio in Kyiv, Ukraine, incorporating around 50 employees from the original 4A Ukraine team. It’s a fascinating shift in the developer landscape, and one we’re following closely.

La Quimera: Gameplay Modes, Story Premise, and Exosuit Features

Returning to the game itself, La Quimera is designed for solo or co-op play for up to three players. The narrative plunges players into the roles of a “down-on-their-luck PMC group caught up in a vast conflict between rival factions and shadowy corporations.” This unfolds in the sprawling, fictional mega-city of Nuevo Caracas, where “mystical events increasingly blur the line between reality and illusion.” Aiding players in combat are advanced exosuits, granting access to “high-tech gadgetry and superhuman strength.”

La Quimera Closed Beta: Dates, Access, and Sign-Up

For those eager for an early hands-on experience with La Quimera, the closed beta offers a prime opportunity. It’s set to begin at 7 am PT/10 am ET on April 12 and will run for 24 hours. Reburn has indicated that access to the beta will be limited, though specific numbers haven’t been disclosed. To throw your hat in the ring, head over to the Steam page for La Quimera and click the sign-up button.
