No Conflict: Space Marine 2 to Get More DLC Even With Space Marine 3 in Development, Devs Confirm

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 Announced – What It Means for Space Marine 2’s Future

The thunderous roar of bolters and the satisfying crunch of Tyranid chitin have firmly established Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 as a monumental success for Saber Interactive. With over seven million copies sold, this action-packed title not only reinvigorated the beloved franchise but also swiftly paved the way for its successor. Indeed, Saber made no secret of its plans, announcing Space Marine 3 was already in development just six months post-launch, igniting both excitement and speculation among the fervent Warhammer community.

However, the rapid revelation of another chapter for Captain Titus ignited a fervent debate among the Emperor’s loyal servants: what would this mean for the ongoing support of Space Marine 2? While Saber Interactive previously moved to quell these fears, the topic resurfaced recently on Games Workshop’s Warhammer TV show, Deep Strike. Creative Director Oliver Hollis-Leick directly addressed concerns regarding Space Marine 3‘s early announcement, particularly in the context of potential single-player DLC for its predecessor. His clear stance: the two projects are not in direct competition, operating on entirely different development timelines.

In a candid interview on Deep Strike, Hollis-Leick elaborated, dispelling the notion of resource conflict: “Announcing a third game doesn’t in any way mean that we’re not going to continue creating content for the existing game. The thing is the development cycles for these projects are long. For Space Marine 2 it was something like four years. And so, for Space Marine 3 it’s going to be the same,” he explained, as reported by IGN.

Hollis-Leick further clarified that the early reveal of Space Marine 3 was primarily to reassure fans that Saber is committed to the saga, ensuring Captain Titus won’t be left in cold storage for another thirteen years. “We announced it to in one way keep people aware of the fact we’re going to continue this, that there’s going to be more coming. But we’re also doing the same thing with DLC. There’s lots already been created and there’s lots more to come. They’re definitely not competing for resources.”
