As a seasoned Magic: The Gathering enjoyer, I’m always on the lookout for a compelling deck-building game. Add some rich fantasy elements and a roguelike twist, and that’s pretty much all my keywords for a captivating gaming experience ticked off. Then comes Doomspire, a title where you delve into ancient ruins, fight formidable bosses, grab as much loot as you can carry, and, of course, meticulously collect powerful cards.
If you’re familiar with Hearthstone or Magic: The Gathering Arena, then the interface of Doomspire, as seen in its reveal trailer (originally showcased during the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct), will feel immediately intuitive. That satisfying visual of cards jabbing forwards to attack always resonates with me—it brings back memories of pushing my Yu-Gi-Oh! cards around like they were alive as a kid.
Doomspire: Card Types and Mechanics
There are several distinct card types on offer in this new adventure. Minions are your standard creatures, which remain on the battlefield, attacking and defending for you. Then there are Powers. These function much like Sorcery and Instant spells from other card games, dishing out a potent, immediate effect to help turn the tide in a pinch. Finally, you’ll encounter Passives. These operate similarly to Enchantments, providing a continuous effect that can be buffed depending on how often you activate their relevant trigger.
Beyond their basic stats, these minions also come with unique abilities, adding another layer of strategic depth to the game. Some abilities activate upon summoning, while others trigger later under specific conditions, ensuring that deck building and in-game decisions will be both challenging and rewarding.
Good news for those eager to dive in: unlike many titles that get teased for months, you don’t have to wait to experience Doomspire. Having officially launched on September 19, this exciting deck-builder is available now on Steam, ready for you to join its growing community.
