Elden Ring Nightreign’s Latest Patch Makes Night’s Tide Damage Brutally Higher

The latest patch for Elden Ring Nightreign, accompanying its new Dark of Night endless mode, delivers a range of crucial updates and fixes. Among these, players will note a much-anticipated refinement of the holy damage icon and, more significantly, a substantial adjustment to the lethality of the Night’s Tide. The official patch notes state: “Increased the Night’s Tide damage after defeating the second-night boss.” Our real-world testing at Digital Tech Explorer confirms this increase is indeed considerable, fundamentally altering post-second-day gameplay.

Field Report: The New Lethality of Night’s Tide

In line with Digital Tech Explorer’s commitment to thorough, real-world testing, an expedition into the Dark of Night mode provided a firsthand look at the updated Night’s Tide lethality. Following the second-day boss, while my teammates advanced towards the Nightlord boss arena, I diverted to a nearby Site of Grace situated within the encroaching Night’s Tide. Despite being mere steps from the safe zone, the journey proved perilous. With a modest health pool at level 12 and few HP buff effects, the Night’s Tide rapidly depleted a fifth of my health within seconds.

Compounding this challenge, a subsequent attempt to retrieve lost runes involved another venture into the Night’s Tide, aiming for a Site of Grace in hopes of replenishment. However, this, too, failed. So far, all Sites of Grace discovered within the Night’s Tide have been unresponsive to activation. As the patch notes make no mention of this change, it may be an unintended bug. Regardless, traversing the Night after the second day has become significantly more challenging, almost impossible, without careful planning. It required several cautious attempts to inch my lost runes back to a secure location. This direct experience underscores the drastic impact on player mobility and survival.

The End of Third-Day Rune Farming Strategies

This update fundamentally alters existing player strategies in Nightreign. While some players might accept their current resources after the second-day boss, perhaps due to an unexpectedly long fight or a teammate’s extended side quests, others have historically relied on “third-day rune farming.” This strategy often involved attempting challenging, high-reward encounters in the Night’s Tide after the second-day boss to accumulate additional runes or seek powerful weapons before facing the Nightlord.

For instance, it was once common for teams to spend considerable time attempting to defeat powerful enemies like the dragon in the South of Noklateo’s map for extra gains. This tactic, however, is now severely curtailed by the increased lethality of the Night’s Tide. While some players, including myself, never fully embraced the high-risk nature of venturing into the post-second-day Night, its closure as a viable farming zone means players must now adapt to the runes acquired by the second day’s end. Alternatively, the challenge falls to Nightreign’s ingenious community to devise new, exceptionally intricate methods to circumvent this limitation.
