Welcome, fellow tech and gaming enthusiasts, to Digital Tech Explorer! I’m TechTalesLeo, and today we’re delving into a neat puzzle from the intriguing game Blue Prince. Early in your adventures, you’ll encounter “The Foundation”—a unique, draftable room that consistently appears in the same map location. This permanent fixture boasts some interesting characteristics: dirt floors with diggable spots, and doorways on its east, west, and south walls. Crucially, along its north wall, The Foundation houses a small, one-person elevator positioned over an open shaft.
The catch, as many gaming aficionados will appreciate, is that this Blue Prince foundation elevator is initially out of reach, perched high on the wall. To use it, you’ll first need to figure out how to bring it down to ground level. Let’s explore how to solve this!
Solving the Foundation Elevator Puzzle in Blue Prince
The solution lies in the game’s core room-drafting mechanic. To lower the elevator in The Foundation, you’ll need to draft a new room directly to its north on the map grid. The critical detail here is that the room you choose must have a doorway in its south wall. This positioning is key, as it grants access to the elevator’s mechanism from behind the wall.
For instance, in my playthrough (as TechTalesLeo often finds through trial and error!), I drafted the “Conference Room” specifically because it featured that necessary south-facing doorway. You can see this layout in the blueprint below:
Once placed, the south-facing doorway of your new room will unveil the elevator’s mechanism and, importantly, a large crank. Remember, if the room you draft lacks this specific doorway, the crank will remain hidden and inaccessible.
With the mechanism exposed, simply interact with the crank. Turning it will lower the elevator in The Foundation down to ground level. Now, you can head back into The Foundation, step into the newly accessible elevator, and activate the switch inside to see where it takes you!
An In-Game Clue and a Permanent Fix
For those who enjoy discovering hints within the game world, Blue Prince does provide a clue to this puzzle. You can find a note and diagram in the mansion’s master bedroom that hints at this solution. A word of caution from my own exploration: the diagram is deceptively flipped! It appears to show the controls to the south, but keen observation of the doorway configuration reveals the mechanism is actually to the north – a clever misdirection by the developers!
The good news is that once you’ve successfully lowered the elevator to ground level in The Foundation, it stays that way permanently for all your future runs. No more crank-turning required for this particular puzzle!
